From Snow to Sun

Image
Wednesday it snowed, all day!  I have never seen a day in all my 30 something years where the snow didn't stop falling from morning to evening.  It was beautiful even if it didn't stick. Thursday morning, there was enough snow to warrant a snow day!  The glorious thing about being up before the 6:00 hour starts is watching the day awaken. I have to say, there is something magical, perhaps a bit Narnia-ish, about a glowing street lamp. Double take moment...B on a cell phone while vacuuming Sister.    This isn't the greatest picture but it shows the start of something wonderful to come.  I didn't get a chance to clean out the garden before Winter set in.  I have had a few weeding and mulch days but I had yet to tackle the main growing beds.  Today (Saturday) was beautiful.  The sun was out, the air was warm, and everywhere Spring was coming alive!  I spent most of the day weeding and preparing the raised beds and the fence/hillside beds fo...

Saint Patrick's Day Weekend

Image
Glorielle had outgrown her co-sleeper.  Brighton's play and pack was too small.  I thought if I just ignored the need for new beds it would go away!  What started with an email (sent to me)...ended up with opportunity and a weekend of cleaning and rearranging.  We got a new crib and mattress and loaned out one of our twin mattresses and so we had to tackle the sleeping arrangements.  We decided to make a boy's room and a girl's room.  We knew this would happen eventually.  The children took it better than I thought (they love sharing a room).  I am a little sad...it is the end of an era.  Separating them makes them seem so...big.  Brighton switched to a regular bed and Glorielle graduated to a crib.   We were then forced to deal with the room that had become the staging area for Goodwill items and bags of outgrown clothes that needed to be sorted and put into totes in the garage.  What a task!  We worked for two ...

What a ghastly day!

Image
What a wet soggy miserable kind of day!  It has been drizzling or pouring rain since I woke up this morning.   The sky is dark and the air is chilly even though it isn't technically that cold out.  I woke up with a headache and if I was familiar with migraines, I might call this one.  My head hurts.  I feel a tad nauseous and I am having light and noise (especially) sensitivities.  However, the show must go on!   Rain pouring off the valley of the roof...  ...and splattering all over the porch.   The view from the back door during the heaviest of the rainfall in the noon hour. After getting the children settled down for rest time.  I vacuumed up the dog hair, mopped up the puddles on the floor, arranged the lovely daffodils I picked at my parents when I stopped by to get eggs and bread earlier today, and took some pictures of the Saint Patrick's Day decorations. A crocheted shamrock bunting I have turned the litt...

First Food...The poisonous yam!

Image
Well Little Glorielle, I guess since you are getting to be such a big girl (7 1/2 months old), I suppose we should think about feeding you!  How about some sweet yams for your first food? Ok, (sweet smile)  Yes, it is a tad bit thick but give them a try!  Don't be suspicious, you might like them!  Eating?  I don't think so!  I have no interest in that.  Maybe in a couple of weeks. Brighton asked (well grunted) to try some yams. They are't that bad! Ummm.....seriously B? Yams are not poisonous!  Daddy will rescue you.  Maybe in a couple of weeks

Rag Wreath

Image
I am really enjoying pinterest.  I can pop on the computer and keep my very own "some day" list!  I pinned a Saint Patrick's Day rag wreath and thought, I could do that!  I made a wreath ring with some heavy gauge wire and went through my scrap tote.  I found a whole bunch of varying length scraps that were 2 1/2 inches wide.  Perfect, I just cut them in half and made them all 6 inches long.  I spent part of an afternoon and part of an evening tying the scraps onto the wire.  I think its permanent location will be on the wall in Evi's bunk bed.  She is on the bottom bunk (at the moment - the children like to play musical beds!) and it is a bit dreary and I haven't quite decided what I could put there.  I think this and some other craftsy decor might be just the thing.  For now, the wreath is residing as a table center piece.

I love Goodwill shopping....It is a fast and efficient way to look for buried treasures.  I can go for a few hours alone between baby feedings while Phil spends time with the children and usually find something for the home or clothing and have quiet time in the process.  I go more frequently during the winter months when I am spending lots of time in small spaces with small people!  When the sunshine and warmth return, we are usually outside enjoying our urban farm and crafting and treasure hunting (well, except for the occasional garage sale) are put on hold. Prices have become a bit ridiculous so the treasure hunt is more about finding something of decent quality or interesting to me (and maybe not others LOL) that isn't a name brand. I went treasure hunting over the weekend and am on a house decorating kick at the moment and I found quite a few fun things and spent....gasp...almost 100 dollars.  I was a little horrified at the register.  How did things add u...
