Before and After

Image
We got so much done over spring break!! We worked on deer proofing, planting the tropical bed, weeding, yard clean up, rock borders, new raised beds, planting all the spring veggies, and hogs fuel pathways!

Projects

Image
Columnar apple trees and alpine strawberry bed Planting the tropical bed Fortressing in the yard Layout for the brick pathway. Strawberries, asparagus, pole beans, broccoli/cauliflower/cabbage

Farm Animals

We have had our rabbits one year now! Check out this handsome guy! And yes, that is the actual color of his skin I have mastered the fine art of chick sitting: water and food on a raised board with paper towels or newspaper underneath, wood shavings with hay over the top (hay is essential). 39 chickens make an awful mess!! I have to clean the cage twice a day and the paper towels even more often (mom and dad, I hope you are bringing me a nice gift from Switzerland!!)

What's Cookin'

Image
Roasting soup bones and onions Simmering broth Treats for Claudia Ten quarts of rich beef broth for the freezer (had to use my new pot and my stock pot). Sally Fallon would be so proud! (Nourishing Traditions)

My New Present

Image
After hearing me holler, "I need a Le Creuset casserole!!!" for the millionth time (after spilling while transfering pans), Phil bought me this little beauty!! This is a 9+ quart cast iron covered enamel oven and burner safe pot. I am already dreaming of the next one! (As they are tres expensive, it will probably be awhile!) Is it disturbing that my children are trying out the cooking pot?

St Patrick's Day

Image
I have been wanting to make "Holidays" more fun and festive so I decided to do a fun St. Patrick's Day theme. We dressed in green, ate green and traditional Irish food, did some fun activities, and learned about St. Patrick. I am not sure if the children are at the age where they can really appreciate the work that goes into making a fun day! The morning was a bit rough but then it turned out really well. I do believe that it is impossible to get a picture of four small children where they all look their best!
