Outside in December

Image
Lots of fog, rain, and dark gray days.  Full moon Cold, silvery sunrise It always amazes me the distance that the sun travels along the horizon.  This sunrise hasn't even reached its furthest point South yet. In the summer, it is on the other side of the hill with the little trees at the top. Begrudgingly, I must admit that the most beautiful sunrises happen during the darkest months of the year. This really isn't outside like the title suggests but it is preparing for the outside!  The kitties are helping me sort all my flower seeds. Winter light in a winter garden. It was freezing, and there were frosty patches but I got the driveway bed all weeded and things clipped back.  Trying to make the most of a day without rain. It was a chilly bright day and this heron was nearby while I started the prep work on the veggie garden (come on March!!!) This is the first time we have seen an egret around here.  He likes the field on the opposite side of the creek and...

Getting Festive to Welcome December

The Winter weather is upon us...lots of days of gray and dark. We usually get our tree the weekend of Thanksgiving. The 2020 tree! I literally had to force them out of the car and make them participate in the annual tree hunt and picture.  It was not the perfect tree this year.  We went to two different places trying to find something that was an open style tree and didn't look too pruned.  We settled for this one. With the kitties, I didn't want to get out any ornaments that I would be upset about having broken and I didn't really feel much like careful placement because the tree seemed a bit wonky and thick so I just put on ornaments randomly with no thought or care.  I filled the tree and then put these gaudy red bead strings on that I have had for years but didn't like the color of.  It was so thrown together and the beads were out of character for what I normally do but it has ended up being a tree I really enjoy! Phil is lying on the ground with a squirt b...

November Overview

Image
Oh my goodness, after more than a month of no posts, I am finally downloading, sorting, and uploading pictures for my blog.  I don't want to leave my online journaling behind but I can't seem to find the time to keep up with it. I am posting 7 posts today and I posted 4 posts last Wednesday (Phil took the kids to work the last two Wednesdays giving me a quiet evening to use as a workday).  It has taken me nearly 2 weeks just to get pictures sorted and make posts that I kept as drafts until I could publish them.   These posts are actually a bit "backwards" because they are one long summary for the month of November in order from the start to the finish:  starting with an Overview, My Birthday, Storms, Sunrise, Sawyer's Birthday, Thanksgiving Homeschool, and Thanksgiving Here is the November overview: My beautiful farm... Science class... Get together's with friends... A new greenhouse for me, yippeeee!!!! Brighton, "They are going to mate soon!!!"  W...

My Birthday

Image
For my birthday, my gift was a weekend away...just me and my art supplies.  I wanted something close to home and not too expensive (although this was overpriced) and we found an airstream for rent near where Phil and I first lived as newlyweds (about 40 minutes drive away).  I had no idea what I would feel like doing so I packed my sketch supplies, crochet, and oil pastels, plus my computer with DVD's to watch and books to read. There was very little internet, only enough to get texts to go through and phone calls if I stood in a certain place on the lawn. Packing up   School supplies for Phil to take to class on Monday (I went Friday night, stayed all day Saturday and Sunday, and came home Monday) Here I am, 46! It was a beautiful old homestead with a main house and a guest house, a greenhouse, and the airstream to rent out.  The owner was a single lady and this was her business and she was booked up pretty much all year.   Here is where I stayed, it was s...
