Catching Up

Image
I must not have been in a very photographic and bloggy mood the past couple of weeks.  Perhaps it has been because of the dreary rain.  After that lovely snow fall, it rained and rained and rained.  There wasn't much excitement or interesting things going on...only dreaming of Spring gardens and Summer adventures. Crocheting I started a new project.  It is a "medieval" looking hood.  I selected these blues to work with. Pretty! Now this picture doesn't look half bad but it just wasn't fitting right so I decided to rip the whole thing out....twice!!!  I was quite frustrated having spent HOURS crocheting this up (twice) only to still not have it work.   I decided to try one more time using a bigger more drapey stitch and only one type of yarn to see if I could tweak the pattern and make it work.  Here is my lovely assistant showing the hood fastened to the beginning of a large and flowing cape.   Well, it is a prototype (or if you are into Hobb...

Snow Walk

Image
It took over an hour to bundle everyone up for a snow walk through our little town.  We have a 2 1/2 mile route that takes us off the main road, along the creek, to the park, downtown, and back home along the main road.  There was snow and frozen rain for most of the walk and most of my pictures from the snow weekend have been rather dark and drab.  I much prefer sunlight with the a bright blue sky to contrast with shadows and show depth and dimension.  This is main road that runs out of town, South.  Normally, this is a busy street with cars traveling 45 miles per hour.  It actually makes me a little nervous to walk along because there are no sidewalks and most drivers don't even slow down for children.  Looking toward town   Looking away, toward the Falls  We don't have snow weather clothing.  I was nice and toasty but I bought these boots (warm, and able to lace up over double socks) when I was once willing to suffer wearing wedges an...

Snow at Home

Image
I am sure this will go down in history as the "Big Storm of 2014".  I remember a snow storm before we had children, and one when the two oldest were little, but I think this may be the most snow we have ever had.  Most years, we don't have any accumulation so 6 inches...especially of very dry powder, was quite the winter storm.  Even as I type this, there is a constant dripping, as the temperatures have warmed up and rain has begun to fall...the snow is fading away. Our home, nestled in the hillside at the forest edge. Looking down our road, the tree line is just past Silver Creek. Looking up our road, our house is on the corner. You can see, that we really live in a tree lined ravine.  It does protect our home from wind and puts us in a bit of a warm pocket, but the morning sun takes a long time to shine in our yard. Front yard Blooming Honeysuckle Side Garden Water Gardens along the retaining wall Back yard fence (which really needs replacing) Back patio Evi, who s...
