Recovery Days

Image
I think we may need to count on a couple days recovery from a camping trip!  I felt a bit like a slug on the day after (partly because it was 11:30 before we got children in bed and the car unloaded).  I did a ton of laundry and we put away camping stuff.  Phil got out the tile saw and we have the fun of cleaning up our beautiful rock finds and cutting the thundereggs.  The children were already asking when the next camping adventure will be and Sawyer and I are itching to get back to Richardson Ranch. Before After Slicing off the uneven edge Beautiful slices...I am already dreaming of additions to Wirlygigs and Whatknots using thunderegg slices.   Friday was felting day as well as Saturday morning.  Phil took the children with him to work and I spent about 8 hours and made 4 little "mini" felted bowls.  Saturday morning, I managed 11 felted flowers.  It seemed like I wasn't doing much after getting into the groove of yard work but I am want to ge...

Easter Oregon Trip, Rock Hunting, Part 2

Tuesday was our rock hunting day. Site number 1 was along the highway.  There was a lot of white agate and jasper between Prineville and our camp that was exposed during the road construction and surprisingly, there was still quite a bit left to find.  It was fun because everyone was able to find something.  Jubilee was excited to find the bones of the poor unfortunately creatures that met their doom crossing the highway.  She came home with a bag of old bones.  LOL! Site number 2 was at a place called Eagle Rock.  It was a long steep hike up to the cliff with buckets and our rock hounding tools but it was fun to pick around the base of the cliffs and find agate seams in the rock.  The view was beautiful. Up late and up early and rock hounding made most of the Kellys quite sleepy. Site number 3 was the Maury Mountains.  We didn't find anything here.  The surface area was picked over and my parents had taken the shovels and gone back to camp. ...

Our Eastern Oregon rock hunting trip! This was our first real adventure of the summer.  I am so happy happy happy that summer has arrived and it has been wonderful.  We are not even two weeks in and we have spent so much time in the garden, Phil has worked on the play area and built a sandbox, and we have done one camping trip and created great family memories. We camped in the Ochoco National Forest at Walton Lake.  It was so beautiful!  June in Eastern Oregon is really like Spring time.  It was a little like stepping back in time and getting to enjoy spring all over again.  The sagebrush was so fragrant and there were so many wildflowers in bloom - Indian paintbrush, little orchids, columbines, iris, and tons of others I didn't know the name of.  Even the wild strawberries were just beginning to blossom.  Here at home, all the spring flowers have come and gone, strawberry season is over, and I even had a sunflower in bloom upon our return. On ou...
