Wedding Plans

In the early Spring, I volunteered to do the flowers for my dearest friend, Michelle's, daughter's wedding.  I had envisioned a few bouquets and planted a little plot of "wild" looking cut flowers, and then started several things in cell packs, hoping that I might get an assortment to put in a few arrangements. As time went on, I begin to see how I would need more arrangements (unity table, guest book, reception, front of the church) then I thought I would plus corsages, boutonnieres, the bridal party bouquets.   I begin to worry about having enough fresh flowers for all those bouquets so I started picking and drying flower bunches so I would be able to create some dried arrangements. (a packed car) What flashbacks to my childhood!  My mom owned a wholesale business where she grew and bunched fresh flowers during the season for florists and then dried flowers for wreaths and arrangements in the off season.  I know the flowers, have picked them, dried them, and h...

New Farm Baby

Some of the children asked me first thing in the morning what we planned to do since it was raining again.  A short time later, Sawyer discovered this little boy in the barn.  There were two babies, this little guy was up and about.  His twin had passed away, clearly right after birth.  It completely caught us off guard because we hadn't anticipated babies for another 6 weeks.  Phil had planned to finish the barn once his vacation started so he had to scramble to get the mom and baby pen up and trusses on and tarped after work. The children named him Flint. The weather was not really cooperative, it rained on and off so there was a lot of mud and wet workers! The goaties huddling under their lean-to staying dry.

A Very Wet Start to Summer

With the rain keeping us cooped up inside, I decided to get out my boxes and bags of craft supplies and have a slug making craft day.   Here are the posts I made on my facebook account that captured some in the moment sentiments about kids and crafting: I am not a "yes" mom. Yes moms are spontaneous, say ok to wild ideas (aka big messes), and allow the use of glitter. I like pre-planning, organization, and order. But sometimes, I need to be a "fun" mom (I think that is in the instruction book). When I saw this slug trophy on Pinterest, I decided that we would do a slug making craft day. I got out my huge stash of fabric, buttons, beads, knick knacks, bits and bobs that I have been collecting for decades. I had visions  of my own slug project....but I spent the day cutting, sewing, pinning, ironing, threading needles, securing knots, and hyperventilating as children pawed through my vintage buttons, cut up perfectly lovely squares of fabric, spilled beads, and made b...
