February on the Homefront

Image
The last month of Winter arrived and with it longer days and the earliest of the perennials just starting to peek through the dirt and the promise of Spring to come.  Yay!  I have enjoyed the hot tub so much! I often soak in the afternoon and enjoy quiet time.  I don't think it will get much use once the weather warms up (I actually don't like to use it if it is sunny) but it is a therapeutic indulgence when it is cool and overcast. We celebrated my Dad's birthday!  I don't know why it is so difficult to find times to gather as family.  Busy lives, going in different directions, and teenagers make finding an evening together a challenge.  There is a series I once watched on tv where the family, 4 generations, gathered every Sunday for an evening meal. Yes, cat pictures... I finished my "harbour crochet along" blanket.  I have to say, I didn't love every minute of it LOL.  It isn't my favorite stitch and dk yarn makes for slow going stitches ...

I am always so ready for Spring by the time we finish up the last month of Winter.  I love getting out on those sunny days when the days are noticeably longer to start prepping the garden for Spring planting.  Farley inspecting the catnip crop. I think he approves. Crocking frogs and the return of the migrating birds are always something to look forward to! Fergus helping spread the sunflower seeds. Time for weeding and setting up the cattle panels for the peas. Sawyer preparing the future potato bed. Good work family!  It looks great. The first of my daffodils is this little one in my dry bed.  Once it blooms, I know it is only a matter of time before daffodils will be popping up all over the place (or at least, that is my eventual plan!) We spent a fortune having the tree block cleaned up.  This was the last of it.  I still would prefer to have more of the dead branches limbed up but we got all the major broken limbs down and dropped several trees.  ...
