When Bad Sewage Happens to Good People...

Image
Being new to the world of septic systems, we had wondered if our septic tank was needing to be pumped because of how full it looked.  We did call and the lady said every 4-5 years.  We have only lived here a year and a half and it was pumped before we moved in so we didn't think much else about it until the bathtub filled with sewage.  We were left without the ability to flush toilets, do dishes, laundry, shower, etc..  Being without water means we can haul it which is a pain but having sewage backed up is a little more unpleasant.  Phil stayed home from work and solve the problem. We did find someone to come out and pump the septic which was a relief!  7 people using the potty without the ability to flush...gross is an understatement.   The problem is...the blockage didn't go away.  Phil worked on the bathroom drain and eventually got out the do-it-yourself snake system all to no avail. There was only one choice left...enter the depths of th...

Catching up in October

I am finding it hard to stay caught up on my blog.  So much happens and life is so busy and sometimes a week can seem like a month and I think to myself, "Did that just happen last week?  Seems like forever ago." Fall is most definitely here and the weather has been stunning.  Warm sunny days, cool air, lighty frosted mornings.  The leaves have changed and it seems so much prettier this year than I remember it last year.  I think I was a bit disappointed at the country colors versus the town colors.  People plant trees known for their bright Fall leaves and the countryside is more muted, less vibrant and varied.  This year, I have my own garden and trees and even though things are small, I can see color and I can imagine how lovely it will be when things start to fill in.   Evening... Morning... Day time The deer are horrible!  They have breeched the fence (which we are having to redo) because they can jump through a 12 inch opening....

Baby Goats Born on the Farm

We have been waiting and waiting for Miss Agatha to have her babies.  Phil took a personal day on Tuesday to help me with garden planning and planting.  When I went out in the morning, Agatha was making a different sort of noise.  I discovered that she was in labor and kept watching and waiting for signs of birth.  Sawyer discovered her at the beginning of pushing and we all rushed out in time to see Baby number 1 make his way into the world.  I was so glad that Phil was here to be part of this! He didn't look so great to start out with and had clearly aspirated some fluid.  Mom went right to work cleaning him up and despite a couple of occasions where I was worried about him, he quickly caught up to his brothers and is doing fine.   Baby 2, another little buckling. He was vigorous, baaing within moments of birth and trying to stand up before his brother.   Waiting for mom to finish cleaning up his brother.  We did rub him a bit wit...
