Wrapping up July

Image
This past week has found us scrambling to adjust to Phil starting back to work on Monday (today, actually).  He had multiple trips to town for work related errands and we were able to hire out the first stage of turning the garage and carport area into living space.  We celebrated Glorielle's 6th birthday and we made some big progress with landscaping.  I went up to Portland to a nursery and out to dinner with my parents.  And in between all that, there was a rusty nail incident and a trip to urgent care. Cleaned up and ready to prep for footings. The trenching begins We are so happy that a general contractor from our small group at church happened to have time to get this project going for us.  It was such a relief to turn this over and put our time and energy in the landscaping project.   Dirt hauling, lots of dirt hauling!   I have had been looking around at yards/properties that have piles of fill dirt and one house that we stopped by did indeed ha...

Another Big Change

While Phil was in Denver, we watched the seed harvest from the porch.  They definitely have a whole system down.   It was a long week with Phil gone and then his flight was delayed because of storms and he ended up getting home a good 4 hours late. Big stacks of hay (out the living room window on the North side) We have been watching field burns as well.  I saw smoke one early morning and then heard sirens.  I could tell by the smoke that it wasn't a field burn.  Sadly, an old family farm burned to the ground.  I saw some pictures on social media.  It was owned by an elderly couple and the outside structures and the old homestead were burned, but I think their mobile home survived with perhaps minimum damage.  Quite honestly, it looked like this place before we moved in and a bunch of stuff was hauled off.  I know it must be so traumatic for the couple living there but I wonder perhaps if it was a blessing in disguise to be able to clean up t...

Denver and at Home

Image
Phil has been in Denver all week at a training and I have been home overseeing the house projects and trying to keep up with the children.  This monstrosity was in the prime photos collection when I went to download a few images from our collective phone photos...   I found this rug online and Phil bought it as a surprise to be delivered when he was gone.  I had pictured it downstairs in the little entry way to brighten the basement but I love the colors here in the livingroom. I took the children cherry and peach picking.  I do feel kind of bad for them in this season.  There is such an urgency to get the yard cleaned up and the house remodeled in the window of time that we have before we have to refinance.  All our time and attention has been focused on house and property.  They have had lots of playtime, some work time, but family relaxing time and adventure is not on the agenda.  It has been a big challenge with Phil and I being spread so thin...
