Wrapping up July

This past week has found us scrambling to adjust to Phil starting back to work on Monday (today, actually).  He had multiple trips to town for work related errands and we were able to hire out the first stage of turning the garage and carport area into living space.  We celebrated Glorielle's 6th birthday and we made some big progress with landscaping.  I went up to Portland to a nursery and out to dinner with my parents.  And in between all that, there was a rusty nail incident and a trip to urgent care.

Cleaned up and ready to prep for footings.

The trenching begins

We are so happy that a general contractor from our small group at church happened to have time to get this project going for us.  It was such a relief to turn this over and put our time and energy in the landscaping project.

Dirt hauling, lots of dirt hauling!
I have had been looking around at yards/properties that have piles of fill dirt and one house that we stopped by did indeed have a huge pile that they wanted hauled away.  We did several loads in the little trailer before deciding that a dump trailer would be so much more efficient.  After spending an entire day (13 trips on Saturday) hauling dirt in the dump trailer, we called a friend and asked to borrow a dump truck.  We are only half way through the dirt pile but should be able to get the rest of it in 3-4 trips.

This is the beginning of my border garden!  The front yard will have a driveway around the pasture fence and then will be lined with a raised bed boarder.  The middle of the yard will be grass (for now) and eventually we will have a formal patio space with a firepit.

So much dirt!

This should be easier!

Concrete blocks being delivered.

Working on the driveway boarder garden.  This is back breaking work.  The ground is really hard, very gravely, and has a ton of weeds.  We have been weeding, raking, and I have it mostly planted.

We put down cardboard as a week barrier and then covered it with hog's fuel.  The next layer will be bark dust.

Dumpster number 8.  I think this is it, the final one!

Tansy graveyard, I just finished covering the second pile best as I can.  We will burn it in the fall.

Jubilee stepped on a rusty nail.  It gave her a pretty good puncture even through her shoes.  She is current on her tetanus shot but her doctor thought she ought to have another.
