Lunar Moth Fiber Art

Image
I have been waiting to work on this fiber art piece for 2 weeks!  I had put together a pile of fabric, ribbon, and crochet items...and it had just been sitting there waiting for me to turn it into something fun!  I had been pondering the layers and theme and then it hit me "Lunar Moths".  I looked them up online to get an idea of their shape and coloring and set to work creating this scene.  Once I was happy with the lay out, I machine 'freehand' quilted it down.  I enjoyed this theme so much, I am thinking about turning it into a series.  I also added "seeing a lunar moth in real life" to my bucket list LOL.   I was so excited about the idea of several Lunar Moth art pieces that I made this little fiber art piece as a potential focal point.  It is a combination of needle and wet felting and is currently drying in the sun.

Beautiful Weekend

Image
Can I just marvel again at the incredible winter weather that we have had!  The problem with beautiful weather...is the strong desire to be out in it!  It is hard to confine yourself to the house and the weekend chores when sunny skies are calling.   We spent most of the weekend doing some deeper house cleaning and organization and working on homeschooling prep but did slip out for an afternoon barbecue at my parent's house.   I love how little children sleep - hunkered over her blanket with a stuffed rabbit on her back. This may have been some of the clearest skies that I remember having.  On a good day, you can see Mount Saint Helens.  On an excellent day, you can make out the white shadow of Mount Adams.  On this day, you could see both so clearly! We roasted hot dogs over the burn pile fire.  I was glad for the warmth, the wind still felt wintry. Mount Hood at the day's end as we drove back home. I did a little decorating on Sunday.  I hu...

It is Not Just Any Town, USA

Image
I am so glad that I live in a small town.  I grew up in the country, outside of a small town.  I lived in the city while I was in college.  And it was quite by "accident" that I found myself working in a small town where eventually I met and married my Love and where we bought a house together.  Truthfully, home would be anywhere my husband and children are but I am glad to put my roots down in just a small town USA...but because we live here, it isn't just Any Town, it is home. (Bruce Springsteen seems to be invading this post.)

Silver Falls in Winter, Part 2

Image
Water...from the ocean waves to the trickly streams....there is just something memorizing about its movement.  I could just sit all day watching the crashing waterfall and feeling the breeze it creates and the splashing spray. I can't get enough of windy trails! Natural topiary This to me, epitomizes being in an old forest...feeling small...and young... under the canopy of green beneath the blue sky. Favorite people Today, I wondered how many types of ferns dot the rainforest along these trails.

Silver Falls in Winter, Part 1

Image
Last February looked like this: We enjoyed a beautiful snow storm, the kind that comes around maybe once in a decade. This year, we seem to be on the opposite end of the spectrum with lots of sun and record breaking temperature.  This Winter has felt more like Spring.  We have had 4 beautiful sunny 60 degree days in a row so we skipped out on our typical afternoon and Phil got out of work a little early to enjoy a late afternoon hike at Silver Falls. The children are fascinated by the big ant hills. "Mom! Take a picture." Sawyer is breaking in the trekking poles he got for his birthday. Silver Falls is always a bit spotty when it comes to sunshine.  The tall trees and steep canyons make for a shadowy landscape but I love the way the sunlight dances off the water. Someone was tired. There is something quite magical about a dew stained spider web. What is a family hike without a spill and blood? I love lacy leaves when the color fades and you are left with a papery imprint....
