The Week after the Holidays

The days leading up to the week of Christmas were difficult.  It seems like every year, I have in my mind that there might be rest during the holiday season but despite covid, it seemed like this year was as busy as ever with a filled calendar and trying to pull everything together by the holidays.

Despite a lot of unforeseen circumstances, Christmas came together beautifully and I did end up feeling relaxed and refreshed over the actual holidays and I was grateful for that.  I always sigh in relief when the holidays pass knowing I have a week to catch my breath before we return to normal.

I made a winter display on the cabinet top and then took the tree down a little early this year.

The corner was begging for a little more light so we borrowed this lamp from my parents.

Because this year wasn't crazy enough, we, on the spur of the moment, decide to dive into working on finish work in the house.  First up, the kitchen!

Phil is so handy!  We chose white subway tiles and gray paint to neutralize the kitchen and then decided to splurge and order enough black and white marmoleum tiles to redo the flooring in the dining area to pull the room together and separate it from the living room.  And just like that, the upstairs took on the remodel chaos as Phil tiled, painted, and finished the trim.  I was a bit anxious to see how it would turn out because I chose neutral where I am used to choosing color and "fun".  It ended up coming together nicely though I still can't believe I went with white and gray.  Truthfully, I don't have a lot of creative energy right now so neutral was safe.

Grout is not for the faint of heart!

Plans for New Year's fell through so my parents came for dinner and I went to bed on time, which is truly my favorite way to celebrate the New Year...keeping my sleep pattern and hoping for rest.

We bought a new-to-us table!  We have never had a table that could seat all 7 of us and I had been frequenting Facebook Marketplace trying to find something to replace our smaller table.  I found this lovely set and it has been so nice to eat together as a family with room to spare!

Happy New Year!!
