Sun River

We had one day after Christmas of rest and recovery (ok, house cleaning) before Phil and I headed over the mountains to Sun River to attend a wedding.  This was the first time that we have been gone from the children in 12 1/2 years!  The last time, I was pregnant with Evi and we stayed at a resort along the Columbia River for our 7th anniversary.

The admin team from Phil's work rented a house together.  It was fun getting to know everyone in a casual setting, though, admittedly a bit of a culture shock.  My social circle revolves around the children in our little conservative world of church and fellow Christian moms.  Being around a lot of drinking, swearing, and coarse talk is not something I am at all used to.  We had a good time though, visiting, playing games, going on a long walk, and sitting together through the wedding and reception.  Most of all, I enjoyed just being an adult and hanging out with Phil.  I am always "Mom", so being away from home (where I live out my Mom role), not homeschooling (my Mom job), or being with the kids (where I am actively Mom) allowed me to just be in charge of myself and not everyone else.  I don't realize how much my life is completely consumed in the care of others until I take a little break from it.  Being a full time Mom is a busy job!

Unfortunately, Friday evening, Brighton spiked a fever and he was sick all weekend.  Tina had to stay home from all the planned events and care for him.  He didn't get to play or do all the fun things that the other kids got to do.  I was worried that he was going to spread sick germs to everyone and felt terrible that Tina spend all weekend taking care of him.  He still had a fever Monday night.  Tuesday he was back to normal but I playing outside all day and staying up late for New Years knocked him down and he spend most of Wednesday in bed.  He was better for his birthday and well enough to go up to Seattle on Friday.  Luckily (knock on wood), no one else got sick!  It is a miracle!

Phil told me his only request for the trip was no complaining.  Hmmph!

Talking a walk down to the village.

The wedding was beautiful!

It was fun to get away, but this is my favorite:
I am good for another 12 1/2 years...and by that time, all my children will be in their 20's and my time of being "Mom" will be over, at least in the capacity that it is now.  So weird to think about..
