Fall in Full Swing

We had a beautiful week of mid to upper 60's so we took 3 days off of school to work in the yard.  I just love being outside on my farm!

At piano lessons

Trying to squeeze out the last of the dinner on the porch days...it is a little too dark and a little to cold.  I am looking forward to warm Spring weather all ready!

My mom gave me a bunch of raspberry starts so I measured out the bed and Phil worked by car lights to get it all rototilled for me.  I made 3 raised beds, planted, and mulched.

While I worked on the raspberry beds, these (perhaps not so little) people were bribed with ice cream to weed and pull up the hog's fuel.  I can get pretty good work out of them with the promise of a treat!

I got some more fill dirt.  We have hauled who knows how much free dirt to make our raised beds and unfortunately, we have dried up all our sources.  I had to buy dirt but I bought cheap fill dirt that had a lot of rocks in it.

I completely redid this bed.  We moved the big pile of rocks and made a rock wall behind and then filled in with dirt and I replanted.  It is mostly done now except for some fill in plants.  Last weekend, I finished the leveling and planting.  This weekend, I mulched it in.

We really do love our ducks!  This is such a different view than what we had when we first bought the place.  I love how it is coming together.

Phil has had a lot of supervision this Fall, so I have spent some evening hours sewing my felt pieces.

One of Evi's creations.

The week after that beautiful weather turned cold!  It was still beautiful but the temperatures dropped to the mid 20's and we did not winterize so we broke a few pipes.  I would have love to continue working outside but it was so cold!

Halloween was in that cold snap

(I can't get this to flip.)

Our Halloween tradition has turned into kids in jammies, some sort of baked apple breakfast, and reading the day away with The House on Hackman's Hill.

My parents hosted Halloween evening with homemade woodfire oven pizza under their new covered area.  The children had a great time but their costumes didn't last too long because it was so cold they had to change into their warm clothes.
