A Perfect Start to 45

I could not ask for a more perfect weekend to start my 45th year.  It was warm, sunny, and I got to spend much of it out in the garden.

I undertook quite the project this Fall putting the garden to sleep for the winter.  First, I redid the North bed, Phil helped me put some boulders along the back and then I dug out every plant, and leveled it with dirt, replanted, and then mulched.  Second, I redid the little garden by the front door, adding a focal plant and some color.  Third, I redid the bed below.  I have always disliked the way the bed was lower than the grassline, so I dug everything out and added dirt until it was slightly mounded.  I replanted (shown below) and mulched it in.  Then, Phil helped me tackle the dry bed.  I so enjoyed this bed last year.  There was something blooming all summer long and it is such a fragrant bed with a sage, lavender, and agastache (hyssop).  I kept finding such lovely little plants to add that it was overly jam packed.  We increased the bed nearly in half and I dug out most of the bed and transplanted so there would be room for things to fill in.  I still have the little tropical bed to weed and mulch, the forrest garden to finish (I have the rock wall built but I am out of dirt), the front bed to weed and rearrange as it got too crowded.  Then the massive undertaking of trying to get the sheep's sorrel out of the biggest bed, which is the East boarder bed.  I also have a few oak trees that need to be planted so I can start my oak grove.  OY!  I don't expect to get those done this Fall but those are the projects I will be steadily working on whenever the weekend weather allows.

This silly little stream!  I got a cheap load of fill dirt that had a lot of rock in it...when life gives you rocks...make a dry stream!  I pulled out all the smooth stones and Phil and the children washed every rock and put this little dry stream in.  It is still a work in progress as I need to do the edges.  When this part is completed, we will go through all our special collections of agates and precious finds and add that to the stream.  No, it doesn't really make "sense" but it is fun anyway!

I worked from dawn to dusk...and then some!  I was watering everything in and watching the nearly full moon rise in the East.  A perfect end to 4 days of no school, Phil home, warm weather, and gardening.  I kind of wish everyday was like this!!

It was NOT easy to get back into school after a 4 day break, plus a modified school day (scheduled power outage for Thursday).  I may or may not have lost my temper.  The children are putting on essential oils to help them and me feel calm LOL!
