Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving was a work day. Phil worked 2, 12 hour days and then had Wednesday-Friday off. We hit the ground running with house stuff - Phil and Alec working on various outside things, particularly, the shelving in the dryroom. I did some cleaning on Wednesday and then yesterday (Thanksgiving) cleaned out the metal shed. Oh my, it was so disgusting!! Every surface area was covered with mouse poop and it was dusty, damp, and the floor was wet. The children helped haul everything into the mudroom and of course it was raining so now there is poop, pee, and dust mud on all the bags and bins. Luckily, the 15 or so huge black construction bags filled with bedding, clothing, and misc household items has not been chewed into. All the bins were safe as well just covered in poop and pee. Everything has to be gone through, washed, and all the bins will have to be sterilized before they can go on the shelves in the dry room. I tossed things like baskets filled with poop and put into my parent's big van, anything that I didn't want. Then I begin the task of going through the all the items. Really, there is nothing more inspiring to get rid of things than just not wanting to sort, pack, label, and store a bunch of crappola! I showed no mercy.
The staging area. The front is the Goodwill pile, the back pile I will hopefully tackle today.
This is beginning to look a little like a room instead of a giant weird entry space.
The upstairs has mostly been gone through. There are piles of things waiting to be put on the shelves in the dryroom and boxes of things that Phil needs to go through.
The cabinet guy came on Wednesday. He begin sanding and doing paint touch up. I think he is hoping to cover up the poorly done job with extra paint...it is going to take a lot of wood putty fill in just to make it look decent...I think I have to accept that my kitchen is going to look terrible and the drawers aren't going to open smoothly. It is a really hard thing for me to do. The kitchen is the hub and my last kitchen had a wonderful design and I really liked being in it. I would rather that we had not done a kitchen remodel and made the old look acceptable with paint rather than spend a ton of money for a brand new kitchen, only to have it look terrible. What a shame. What a waste.
Thursday was mostly rainy with a few breaks in the clouds.
This was on the drive over to my parents.
It was just our family and Alec at my parent's for Thanksgiving.
What is Thanksgiving without a little drama? Both kitchen sinks were plugged and Jubilee didn't feel well and then threw up in the night so now we can look forward to the stomach flu making its rounds.
Dinner was delicious of course. I always look forward to big family dinners because my mom is such an excellent cook and you feel good eating her food. It isn't carb heavy, overly sweet, or greasy, and there are always such delicious flavors with specialty cheeses, high quality oils, and fresh ingredients. I haven't been cooking much (or at least cooking nice balanced meals) and we have eaten out a lot since getting this place so it was especially delicious this year.
