The Last Weekend Before the Move
This is the last weekend before the big move....oh my, we are getting our rears kicked a bit! These late nights are grueling and there have been so many other things! Our van broke down on Friday. I put the key in the ignition and turned it on but it would turn over. I pulled the key out and the car stayed "part way on". Phil had to disconnect the battery so the radio and ignition lights and such wouldn't drain it down. So, we are down to one car...with a broken tail light that Phil got pulled over for on Wednesday and that the children managed to break the handle off of so one door can only be opened from the inside.
Brighton started complaining of a toothache at the early part of the week. I took him into the dentist immediately for an appointment (Tuesday). He got x-rays and the dentist wanted to wait and see what happened. He complained off and on and by Saturday, he was in a lot of pain. He woke up Sunday was his lip hugely swollen. The dentist is currently in at his office doing research on what to do and has several phone calls into colleges. We are going to try and knock the infection down with antibiotics and then decide if pulling the tooth or a root canal (which would need a specialist because the root is not fully developed) is better. Not sure what will happen this week...I suspect appointments possibly even up in Portland. We may have to borrow a car (and who is going to pack up boxes??)
With Brighton's toothache and pictures, texts, and phone calls in to the dentist, we ended up not making it to church..where we had nursery duty and Phil had ushering duty. Right now, we are waiting for the pharmacy to open so we can get a prescription. Phil has a church meeting this afternoon and Sawyer has a dinner thing at the church and we have a birthday party this evening to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday. We also need to continue working on the house. Phil hollered out this morning, "TIME OUT, GAME OFF". We are feeling the squeeze - car broken down/only one car, tooth problems and impending appointments on top of late nights every night and knowing we have to be moved out by next Sunday at 5:00. The house is no where near ready and we have to build a dog kennel and a "catio" (cat patio/cage) by the weekend. We will be moving our stuff into the garage and living in our tent trailer...for who knows how long.
On Saturday, we arrived at the farm with Mr. Wallace there ready to unload Sawyer's club house that he built for his construction class and with Sandra ready to unload 5 steers into our pasture.
The children have claimed the tree block as their fort area. They cleaned it up and put in a tire swing and Sawyer had picked out the exact location that he wanted the club house.
Mr. Wallace stayed and helped get things all leveled out and taught Sawyer how to put up the siding. Then Sawyer built railings and got it all set up. He is excited to sleep there someday.
Phil was able to drive the trailer right up to the gate (after we moved some things out of the way) and Sandra stayed to make a couple of fence repairs. The steers were so happy to run around the field.
I really do love our farming adventure.
Yummy green grass.
The three little steers running and bucking.

Poor Brighton. He spent all morning wailing about his tooth. He clearly was in pain but it has been very difficult to figure out how much, how often, and what kind of pain it was. I have had an infected tooth and an emergency root canal...it was excruciating. I wasn't sure if this was just his gum line stinging, an exposed nerve from a tiny crack in his repaired tooth, or something else. Turns out, it is the something else. I was hesitant to give ibuprofen but it came down to him needing pain relief. The dentist said that this is helpful because we know more about what is going on (his x-rays didn't show anything) and we were going off of "my tooth feels cold".
Swollen lip on Sunday.
