Halloween

We do like to do something fun and special for the children for Halloween even though we have gone back and forth about how "Halloweenish" we really want to be.  We decided to get pumpkins for carving, choose costumes from our costume box (nothing new/no shopping), and go to my parent's Trunk or Treat activity at their church.

We left everything to the last minute (this Fall has been so very crazy for us.)  These pictures were taken at 5:00 in the evening of Halloween eve.  It was raining and muddy but the children had so much fun!

Clowning around waiting for the girls to finish running through the corn maize.

Pretty much the way it is!

Our attempt at everyone looking normal:

Pumpkin carving at Grammy and Grampy's (with cousins).

I guess pumpkin guts are icky.

I like speckled, bumpy, irregular shaped squash/gourds the best!

Trunk or Treat set up....I was a little worried when my parents packed up a cauldron filled with bones (real ones of course) and a skeleton because I wasn't sure it was appropriate for a church function and besides that, it was creepy.  But, it ended up being "fun"...kind of a pirate meets old farm theme, complete with a live chicken LOL.

Incidentally, the creep factor was largely in their old moss covered van which looks like the kind of van that you tell your children to run from.

The creepy skeleton...sitting in a trunk, holding the popcorn bowl.

Ewwww

Peaches, the chicken.

The bone cauldron filled with dry ice and bones.

Having fun!

It sprinkled slightly in the afternoon during the pumpkin carving and the set up but as soon as the trunk or treat officially opened, the heavens opened up and it POURED.  The children were soaked through!

I loved this pumpkin carving (and also Jubilee's "Jesus Christ" wording on her white pumpkin...fitting).

This is probably a bit strange...but this is my favorite pictures of the night.  My camera took a ton of blurred pictures, even with the flash so I was disappointed with overall result but I love this blurred rainy picture.  I think my camera may have been trying to focus on the rain drops.  You can see little dots of light and streaks.  If you squint your eyes, you can see some wonderful little things going on - light, shadow, shapes, and color!  Composition wise, my eye just hops all over the picture and I love the black and white umbrella on the right.

We did go inside the church for activities and dinner.  I meant to take lots of pictures but I got distracted visiting and didn't take a one!  We eventually made our way home and then I did laundry and got costumes hung up to dry.  The children were allowed a Halloween candy treat during a movie.  We even got a few trick or treaters braving the downpour (still raining nearly 4 hours later).  All in all.....I would say it was a huge success and the children will have fond memories of family and fun.
