Wool Soaker

Ta Da!

Knit Pix, Wool of the Andes, Tumeric and Conch.  Pattern found on Ravelry (free, wool soakers).

Overall Cost, 5.00 (using up wool I already have).  Time spent, about 10 hours but much of that was fiddling with the pattern, now that I have practiced and reworked some of the glitches, I bet I could do it in half the time.

It wasn't too bad for my first attempt at 1. A garment,  2. Short rows,   3. Gussets,  4. Sizing and working off of a gauge,  5. Making adjustments and alterations (fancy word for tearing out stitches and redoing redoing redoing until I was satisfied).

I actually think they turned out quite cute, however, following the pattern guidelines, I am not satisfied with how high the waist goes up (hence the fold down).  I made several notes on how to fix this in the future and I used a ton of math to do it!  (Who knew ratios would come in so handy!)

I soaked the wool in a lanolin solution to prep it for use and let it dry (took 24 hours!).  Glorielle finally got a chance to wear them this afternoon.  She had them on for about 4 hours and had 2 pee diapers.  I did notice that they felt a bit damp.  Not sure exactly why and what to do about it.  I think G's diapers need liners for sure because they are soaked through with just a pee and I wondered about adding some sort of liner in the gusset.  I have a couple less cute patterns to try and maybe a different style will wick away better.  Who knows.  In the meantime, we will give it a go with her jeans tomorrow and see how dry she stays.

Poor little thing has a terrible rash.  She has been off of gluten for about a week now with no improvement.  I will give it another week or two and then I will need to figure something else out.

  1. Cute soaker! Emily, Silas had the same rash for 6 months. I read an article about yeast and causing face rashes in kids in the Azure Standard catalog/magazine. I took all yeast out of his diet and its totally gone. I have a copy of the article for you if you want it. A lot of kids are allergic to commercial yeast according to the article. It's surprising how many things have yeast, things you don't expect like crackers, cereal.
