Our new gifty project!
Several years ago, my parents decided to invest in some retirement projects for my Dad - fixing up old trailers. They bought several and one of them was this little Gem, a 1970's model in good condition. It has sat around some four years I think and Phil and I had planned to purchase it with work exchange. In reviewing our budget, we decided that we really couldn't afford it so we put the idea out of our heads (well, I tried to!).
I was so excited when my Dad told me that they had decided to GIVE us the trailer! We brought it up home on Saturday and are going to "restore" it by salvaging, using what we have, and only buying what is essential by squirreling away our pennies. Just think...a guest room, a mommy retreat for crafting (yeah right LOL), a fort/sleepover play house, a reading nook, and of course, a camping home!
I love the layout of the interior. It is such an efficient use of space.
This is plumbed for a bathroom but we will probably fix it up as a pantry/storage closet.
Kitchen. I like that there is so much counter space and the little ice box and stove are the funnest colors.
This long bench is an additional bed. There are many windows so it is nice and bright. I have no desire to keep the integrity of the era so I am painting and decorating to whatever my finds and desires may be!
Phase I Cleaning
Here the children are scrubbing with hot soapy bubbles. After taking this picture, I discovered that the girls were washing with their hands...not very effective so I dug out some cloth rags for them to use.

Dirt, dust, spiders, mouse nests and poop to be vacuumed. A very thorough scrub down of every surface area is still in order and I am not sure how to sanitize poop filled drawers, cubbies, and dark places. I washed the cushion covers but I am having a hard time getting the "old" smell out of them. The foam is in decent condition...a bit yellow but I can't help but think 40 year old foam is really gross!
Phase II will be waterproofing and replacing dry rot.
