The last weeks of summer!
Two weeks left until summer officially comes to an end. I can't believe how hard we (mostly Phil) have worked! LOL! We are still right in the middle of all the projects plus we are trying to do some clean up. Hopefully, the roof will only take one more long day to finish so that will be one BIG project officially crossed off the list. Phil undertook so much this summer with siding, painting, and roofing.

An end of the summer tragedy...
I have been interested in fiber animals for quite some time and learning to spin and dye my own yarn. I decided to add a couple of angora rabbits to my urban farm and have been watching Craig's List for an opportunity to get some. We visited a farm and I spent quite awhile talking with the breeder about types and care and finally decided on these two lovely ladies. I moved the Rex rabbits to new cages and scrubbed down their old ones to make a home for the new additions. I fell in love with them immediately and contacted the breeder about getting two more! Because of their long fur, I took extra precautions providing a shade cloth and ice two-liter bottles in their cages to help keep them cool. I was surprised and dismayed when Phil checked on them and found one dead and the other near death. We quickly tried to cool her down but it was too late. I have been crying off and on all evening. I just adored these sweet rabbits and feel so horrible about what happened. I did everything suggested from various online sources and they still overheated in upper 80 degree weather. Our plan was to eventually move the Rex rabbits back to this very spot (which they have lived for 18 months with no problems) and move all the angoras into the rabbitry with the Flemish Giants. I honestly don't know what I will do now. I have two more waiting for me to pick up (if the breeder will even considering letting my purchase them now) and no suitable place to keep them. Sigh...what a tragedy. I miss them already.
I'm so sorry Emily. losing precious creatures is heart wrenching. take care friend. xo
