The cleaning begins - the garage!
Yes, this is a blog post all about my pantry! The plan was to finish all the outside projects and then move onto a big house clean, then homeschool planning, and then school would start and everything would be finished, beautiful, spick and span, organized, and we would be greatly inspired by all our accomplishments....ha ha ha ha!!
We moved our pantry (white shelves) into the livingroom in the Spring in anticipation of hot weather and trying to keep our dried goods out of the inferno that we call our garage in hot weather. Hmmm, the weather for most of the summer was cool except for as soon as we moved the pantry back to the garage! And the entire house is just as hot as the garage. I mean so hot that I don't want anyone within 5 feet of me or their body heat and sticky sweat would push me over the edge. (Glorielle doesn't quite get this concept and still insists on nursing.)
This lovely pantry area all cozy and organized is in our garage! I love how we have learned to work with the space that we have. We don't have a pantry or storage and since I cook a lot and love the homemaking arts (in this case, food preservation), we have pieced together over the past 8 years or so a very workable situation. Phil built a deck for our washer and dryer to sit on which makes my daily laundry endeavors just that much easier! We have 3 tall skinny white shelves to serve as canned and dry good storage; a heavy duty shelf for jars, appliances; a few of our old kitchen cupboards for storage; wire shelving for laundry, cleaning, misc items, and a big kitchen island type counter (that we originally bought for another house that we were in the process of buying that fell through at the last moment); and two freezers. We put down carpet remnants to make it cozy and define the pantry space. Voila! A pieced together pantry and storage area! Now, ideally, we would go through all the cupboards and boxes of miscellaneous items but at least we did organize what we have and the floor space is clear!!
Isn't this all just fascinating!

Now that I have delighted you with my cleaning victories, I suppose a rabbit update is in order.
Well, it was not a fun day of feeling bad and trying to figure out what to do. I had several emails into the angora breeder and searched Craig's list for used cages. The problem is, I want a nice neat clean rabbitry with uniform cage that are large, stackable, and easy to clean. We did stumble upon a company in Portland that makes the kind of cages that I was looking for and figured we could buy new ones here and there instead of trying to come up with a bunch of money up front plus we would save on shipping costs (which is about a dollar a pound).
We found some used cages for sale outside of Cottage Grove but a 2 hour plus drive one way didn't seem worth it...until she offered us a whole slew of cages for half price of what we would buy them new. Stand by for new updates!
