Valentines Day

The children and I had a project day here at home for Valentine's Day.  We made salt dough hearts and Valentine's for Daddy.

I bought a box of cold cereal (the most favorite of breakfast treats LOL!) for breakfast and made alfredo with heart shaped hamburger patties for dinner and rice crispy treats (with alternative ingredients) with swirled chocolate hearts on the top for dessert.

We focused on the verse in 1 John that says "We love because He first loved us." (4:19) and we talked about God's love throughout the day and how the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength and the second greatest, love your neighbor as yourself.  (Mark 12:30-31).

Salt dough hearts. They were suppose to take 2 hours to dry but they took about 5! We are in the process of painting them but they will take a few coats and a varnish before they are done. I was going to have the children make them into pendants but they look so neat, I want them to be displayed.

I made this over the weekend. I got the idea straight from the blog Little Birdie Secrets. I am not much for coming up with my own ideas anymore LOL! I bought a frame at the Goodwill (2.00) and painted it with white paint and then distressed it.  I cut out the hearts and sewed them on a music sheet paper (bought a workbook at the Goodwill for 1.00).  So, the project cost me 3.00.  Truthfully, I would never had bought this already done up.  My decor is shifting from works of art to craft projects done at home by myself and the children.

Valentine's hearts.  The children used scrap paper to cut out hearts from a template that I made and decorate them with button, stickers, and jewels on one side and special notes to Daddy on the other.  I collected sticks and put them in a vase for them to hang on.
I finally finished my Blooming Flower Cushion from the Attic 24 blog.
