October Update
We have been so busy that I just haven't had much time for journal writing or taking pictures. The long hours, trying to keep up on chores (with a broken dishwasher) only one working vehicle, doing school, and a nasty cold that made its rounds leaves little time for much else. Phil figures that we will gain an extra 13-15 hours a week in family time, once he is home. I can't wait!
Jubilee is my little mother. She loves babies and always wants to hold them and cuddle them. A few babies down the line and I am sure she will be my right hand.
Isn't this just a picture of loveliness. I am sure all homeschooling families are blessed with calm, serene school experiences such as the picture above reflects...(hahahahaha!!) Actually, in between those times of Brighton managing to play in the toilet while I give instructions, the baby fussing, the phone ringing, foolish behavior being addressed, the timer going off, something burning in the oven, a little one pooping their pants, etc... we do find a moment or so a week where everything is calm. I love those moments!
We did run into the need to reevaluate school a little at the early part of October. Attitudes weren't great (mine included) and school was feeling cumbersome instead of quality time with the children. I discussed with the children what they liked and what they didn't like and then made some changes.
Change number 1: In order to make compliments tangible, we started a compliment marble system. I give a compliment and they get to put a marble in a jar. When the jar is full, we will celebrate!
Change number 2: Tea time during Bible devotions and reading.
Change number 3: Stickers and Stamps for workbook pages.
Change number 4: Drawing time during read alouds
Change number 5: More crafts
Change number 6: Leaving the morning chores and getting started on school right after breakfast. It is hard for me to leave a mess but it is better for everyone to start fresh.
Change number 7: More time outside instead of doing a second school session in the afternoon.
