Purging...the Kitchen
This week has been such a great week! I am finally getting the chance to purge each room of the house! This is something that I have wanted to do since the summer but didn't really get the opportunity. Last month, the clutter really built up as I was not able to even keep up with the basics because I felt so sick with morning sickness. I am doing much better now - having nice chunks of time in the morning where I feel almost normal and I usually can function in the afternoons. By evening, I am nauseous but I am so thankful to have so much of the day where I am not lying on the couch! Anyway...I have been tackling one room at a time, going through every cupboard, every closet, every shelf and purging anything and everything that isn't being used with regularity. I have not been this ruthless since we have lived at this house (for 7 years now). It has been a little hard to get rid of some things that I have had for a long time, but we have limited space, our lifestyle has changed so much in the past 6 years, and since my decor tastes are also changing, some things aren't practical to hold on to. I am keeping several boxes of knick knacks and keepsakes that I can rotate around. I have worked my way through the kitchen, living area, children's bedrooms, and hall closet. I have the bathroom and master bedroom left to go through. The big job is going to be the playroom and I will tackle that in baby steps. We have made numerous Goodwill trips, packed up boxes to store at my parents for a Spring/Early Summer garage sale, and taken photos and set up a staging area for things we hope to sell on Craig's list. I am amazed at how much stuff we have accumulated over the years and even with yearly cleanings, how much I have held on to. It is slow going, but it feels so good to have some motivation and see the house take on a more "minimalist" look.

A view from the livingroom. If you look out the window, you can see a small orange ball. It is a pumpkin that grew into the sides of the cattle panels we hung on the fence. I couldn't get it out without cutting it up so there is remains! LOL!

No kitchen is complete without children standing on the counter tops!
