School

We haven't done a great deal of school this Fall because we have been so busy soaking up the last of the good weather! This week the forecast calls for rain rain rain. So...we will be doing sit down/book preschooling with a little more diligence. Really, we school all the time because we are always learning. Phil and I love hearing our children casually mention gravity, planets, identify different bugs and spiders, discuss Bible topics, and make observations about the world around them with impressive vocabulary and surprising insights.

Evi reads stories and colors on a clipboard next to Mommy or at the table.

Working on a workbook page. Sawyer is really ready for preschool this year. Last Fall, we did quite a bit of preschooling, mostly in the form of activities and art but he wasn't quite ready for the actual content learning although he loved doing the activities. Jubilee is not ready yet but she loves coloring and participating. I bet she will be to jump right into Kindergarten activities when Sawyer does. She picks up on the book learning aspect of things quickly.

Workbooks are quick and simple (though not as much fun as the program I put together last Fall). With a new baby coming, we will be going through a series of workbooks and supplementing with activities from the preschool program I put together. The prep work is nothing and Phil can easily pick up where we left off.

The perfect set up. Mommy gets a nice comfy futon mattress to sit on with children on all sides. And is everyone wearing pajamas? Yes, we don't have to be fancy when we school. I love the flexibility of doing school whenever we want and however we want. I love being able to assess where my children are at and tailor their education specifically to them. I am really looking forward to our homeschooling adventure!

  1. I think you will find it such a joy to school Sawyer and Jubilee together. David and Gabrielle (and now Isaiah and Rachel) have done that much of the time. It makes it so much easier, plus they enjoy having a school mate.
