Updates

Our anniversary was fun. We went to a movie and out to dinner. It is rare for us to be alone and have a date night. It always feels weird when we do!

Evi is turning into quite the talker! It is fun to listen to her holler, "tractor" at every farmer's field or her favorite, "shoe!!". That girl loves shoes!! She still isn't walking at 19 months but she jumps with both feet off the ground, crawls, climbs, does squats, walks everywhere that she can touch. She will even walk if you hold on to her just by the tip of her finger.

Cucumbers are in full harvest. Not only do we have the fun of harvesting and eating them but they serve so many other purposes as well like dolls, bath toys, bazookas, etc. We eat cucumbers and tomatoes at least one meal a day (if I can find any that the "grazers" have left behind ie the children and Phil). Our figs are just about through for the batch but the trees are loaded for a fall crop.

We are still working to get a temp pen up for the chickens. I don't want to set up their permanent home until I can transplant the raspberries in the Fall. We have thinned and pruned up the bamboo which will be part of their permanent set up. Phil made a little pen that attaches to their coop out of deer netting and 2x2's. I am looking forward to having them out of the house. They are roosting on the edge of the box and pooping up a storm!

Racoons got into my beautiful water feature. They ate the goldfish and shredded and/or pulled up EVERY leaf of my beautiful water lilly. I was about ready to cash in the urban farm plan right then and there. Phil covered the water and the hopefully-still-alive lilly with a screen. It will keep them out but the beauty of it is gone.

This is the last week before football practice so I am enjoying every evening together as a family knowing that they will be scarce until the end of November. Last night we just hung out and puttered around in the garden until dark. It was so peaceful!
