A day in the life of the Kelly family...

Whew, it is 9:25 pm and things are finally winding down! I thought I would take a moment to recap my day in a blogger post. Then, perhaps I will take a much needed shower. If I make it that far, I may sit on the couch with a bowl of ice cream while I am waiting for Phil to come home.

This morning, I got up around 7:20. Phil headed off to work and I got out my Bible and study material. I didn't get very far before two children were at the table with me blankets, books, and stuffed animals included. At least I read a few verses!

The morning routine of breakfast, clean up, baby up and cared for, and everyone dressed took its usual hour and a half. All three children then played on mats with various toys while I tackled laundry - folded the existing loads, started new ones, and took tags off the used clothing that I purchased yesterday.

Evi was ready for her cat nap around 10:45. (She gets really cranky around this time but will only nap for 30 to 45 minutes.) We went outside for the next hour and half or so. We ate grapes off our vines, weeded, and watered. Evi joined us about half way through.

The noon siren that goes off at City Hall told us that lunch time was right around the corner so we finished up our playing and headed inside. Lunch was our usual peanut butter and jam sandwiches, chips, and fruit. Evi had her first official pb and j sand. She loved it!

After clean up the two older ones went down for their naps while the baby and I cuddled on the couch so I could keep a bird's eye view on Miss Jubilee. She has gotten into the bad habit of playing around during nap time instead of sleeping. The other day I caught her in the closet with all her stuffed creatures playing with my camera equipment. I decided she needs to be watched until she falls asleep.

Evi went back down for her long nap around 2:00 and by this time Sawyer had fallen asleep as well. He takes books to bed and either naps or reads. His choice.

I had decided that we would have a picnic dinner at the football field with Daddy before the big game so I spent the afternoon preparing and packing our picnic goods (pasta salad, peach cobbler, and nectarines). I folded 3 more loads of laundry and then the children began to wake up.

We went to the school and played a bit while Daddy finished up with practice. We had our picnic and then played baseball until a little after 6:00. Evi was fading fast and Phil had to get to the pregame activities so we headed home. As soon as I started to unload the car, Phil called. I had driven off with one of the footballs that just so happened to be the game ball so I had to quickly bring it back. I could just see the headlines...Housewife Commandeers First Home Game Football.

The children really needed baths so I gave Evi one and then put her to bed. Jubilee went next while Sawyer read books at the doorwell on a beanbag. Sawyer then took his while Sissy got dressed. She got the diaper rash cream (you know, the white kind that doesn't easily come off) and applied it as lipstick while I was helping Sawyer wash his hair.

I have been having trouble finding time to fit in our preschool activities so we sang some songs, did a little painting project, and read stories before bed. I am not sure if 8:00 at night is the best time to do school activities but we needed to fit it in somewhere.

The kids brushed teeth, prayed with Mommy, and went down very well! I cleaned the kitchen and put away all the folded laundry before sitting down to type. Phil will hopefully be home before 11:00. I usually go to bed around the time or a little after. Evi is up between 10:30 and midnight to nurse so I often just wait until she wakes up. It is too torturous to fall asleep for the night and then have to wake up right away.

Wowers, I am tired!!

  1. Sounds like a grand day! Don't think you're kids are missing out on "preschool" activities on days such as these. Picnic with Dad, grazing in the garden, learning self control throughout the day, helping Mom, those all qualify as "preschool" in my book!
