What the Lord is currently doing
I just have to share what the Lord’s is currently doing in my life. I have been quite candid about my struggles and the changes in my thinking as I began my parenting journey. It has taken quite awhile but I feel as though I have really begun to grasp what the Lord has called me to do (and be). My problem now is implementation. I have been amazed at the doors that have opened into solving part one of this problem, which for me is finding joy. I have been blessed by several books that I am devouring. I am currently reading a verse by verse “explanation” on the book of Romans by Michael Pearl. Very meaty, requiring much concentration!!! I am also reading Homeschooling with a Meek and Quiet Spirit by Teri Maxwell which emphasizes being in the WORD and PRAYING. She has given me a couple of real zingers to chew on. Coincidentally, a blog that I follow (Earthmuffin Manor) has been posting a lot about “joy” and our Sunday service was on praying. Other books I have on my summer reading list are Excellent Wife by Martha Peace, Keeping our Children’s Hearts by Steve and Teri Maxwell, and The Power of Motherhood by Nancy Campbell. Hmmm… Now, for the crazy part, I just received my Above Rubies publication in the mail. There was an article called Powerful Parenting, What is the Secret? in which the opening sentences are Perhaps the greatest weakness in our parenting is our lack of prayer. It is our most powerful weapon. God waits for our prayers. When we pray. He Moves. Now it gets, really crazy. I was glossing over the retreats and I found one (of only 6) in…you guessed it…SILVERTON!!! I called the contact name today and am signed up to attend an Above Rubies retreat 10 minutes from home. And to top it all off, the retreat is scheduled on my birthday! AND…Pam, one of the organizers, lives very near to my parents and we plan to meet sometime this summer. I pass by her house every time we go to my parents. Pam is also planning to lead a study in the Fall on Nancy’s book, The Power of Motherhood.
So, in conclusion, I was having a difficult time knowing how to “find joy”. The Lord is showing me the importance of being meek and quiet, reading my Bible, and praying. He is leading me through the Bible (of course) and also books, blogs, magazines, and sermons. And now, it seems the Lord is sending me Titus 2 ladies!
What a wonderful and amazing God!

Keep sharing about what the Lord is doing in your life. It's so fun for me to see and it helps to remind me of what I need to be focussing on as well. It's so easy to lose focus in the busyness of life. I hope and pray that I can join you at the retreat...this is the first time that one has been close enough that it could be remotely possible for me to go.
ReplyDeleteEmily, how exciting to hear what the Lord is doing in your life! I'm right there with ya, Sister! In fact, the very books you are being encouraged by are either ones I am currently reading or ones that I am shopping around for! God IS amazing and completely able to provide everything we need for this mothering journey! We come so ill-equipped but He 'who has started the good work in us will be faithful to complete it'! I, too, am considering the retreat! We'll see how the Lord leads...
ReplyDeleteMany blessings to you!
