What is going on at the Kelly household?

Could it be? Yes, it is an update!!!

Events and Happenings…

I am still going to the chiropractor weekly. I can tell that I am healing because getting aligned isn’t nearly as painful and there is a huge decrease in the number of pops!

I took the kids to the zoo last Thursday. Outings are always “interesting” with 3 little ones. I am most comfortable at home so it was actually a big deal for me to drive up to Portland and do a big outing alone. It started out a little rough (took the wrong exit, Sawyer got pee on himself, Sissy fell down, Evie was VERY upset about being in a stroller) but ended up being fine. Adventures are so much more fun with Phil!!

My quilting class went off with out a hitch. I will admit looking in my rear view mirror as I pulled into the parking lot. As you may recall, this is when and where I was rear ended last month.

Gardening…

Whenever I can find a few minutes out in the garden to weed and mulch, I take advantage of it. If the weather is decent, and the girls take their naps at the same time, I take Sawyer out with me. He LOVES being outside! Sometimes we all go out after Daddy gets home.

An ooops pregnancy…

No, not me, our cat, Sookie. We had planned to have the cats fixed and first shots during Christmas vacation/Phil’s paternity leave. Bookie’s unfortunate run in with the car cut funds short (not to mention the hassle of repeated vet visits, having to keep him indoors, etc.). I couldn’t get an appointment for Sookie for 6 weeks and by then it was too late. I looked out our front door and there was mating going on on our porch. So….anyone want a kitten?

In other animal news….

I have completely had it with the copious amounts of cat poop in the garden!! If anyone has suggestions (other than termination) for getting cats out of the garden, we will try anything.

Same goes for deer. The rose right in front of the house, between the kid’s bedroom window has already been nibbled on. We didn’t get a single apple from our trees last year because of the deer damage.

The disaster…

You know how sometimes you can clink a glass jar ever so slightly and it will crack or flat out break?? Phil was getting something out of the refrigerator and clinked a gallon jar of goat’s milk (full to the brim). It busted a hole in the bottom and milk filled the entire bottom of the fridge into the crisper jars which were full of veggies because I had just gone to the store. What a mess. It took over an hour and a half to clean up with both of us working on it!! No use crying over spilled milk, as they say.

Sawyerisms….

Sissy was whining in the car and I said in jest to Phil, “Sissy, put a sock in it!” After a few seconds we hear a, “HEY, NO put sock in Sissy.” I sometimes forget that he picks up on EVERYTHING! 3 year olds are so much fun!

He informed me today that he was going to work. He said goodbye and rode off on his scooter. He came back with two spatulas and told me that he was going to kill dinosaurs with them.

Evie…

Is a big roly poly girl! She turns 3 months a week from tomorrow! She is quite a talker!! We have a lot of conversations together. I talk and she coos! Her latest trick is escaping her swaddle and not going back to sleep! It is much more fun to eat one’s hand than sleep…and hand eating reminds her of nursing….so, she is nursing more frequently at night.

Jubilee…

Is my little organizer (just like Mommy). I gave her some fabric scraps and she sorted them from one container to another, lined them up on Daddy’s leg, took them for a ride in her play stroller, and then sorted them again until it was time to clean up.

Schooling….

I found a routine of informal schooling that has been working really well for us. It takes no prep work on my part, can use up the time that we have available whether it is an hour or three, and has interactive play/learning with Mommy and individual time.

Here is the routine:

1. Quiet mat time with a toy (like legos, tool set, farm toys, etc.)

2. Interactive mat time with Mommy (like pattern blocks where we make simple patterns, learn colors and shapes, sort and categorize, etc..)

3.
Art – drawing, crayons, colored pencils, paints, etc. (they each have anotebook so no paper mess)

4. Quiet read time on beanbags, Mommy does her Bible study

5. Share what you read/pictures you liked and prayer time

6. Mommy read aloud

It is working great and takes us all the way up to lunch time.

Stay tuned for a picture update (hopefully!!)

  1. Evie is huge! My goodness, what a chunk! And I LOVE the loft in the bedroom. Is it for play now and later for sleep? How creative! Man oh man, I need to come for a visit. I just wish my 2 little boys weren't such terrible travelers at the moment:-( Michelle
