My Parents to the Rescue!

Our update on Bookie…..Bookie made it through the night so that made us hopeful that he didn’t have internal injuries. When I talked with my parents on Sunday, they offered to help out with vet expenses if we took him in right away. I was able to find a regular vet clinic that was open on Sunday (instead of an expensive emergency care center). He had an initial exam and then x-rays. They kept him overnight for further treatment. He suffered an ankle dislocation, a fracture at the base of his tail, and a pelvic fracture. They recommended surgery for his ankle but we declined due to the outrageous cost and had them put a cast on instead. Hopefully the ankle will stay aligned and heal correctly. He is housebound for the next 8 weeks or so. His main problem will be getting used to the cast! It is very big and bulky and seems to hurt his injured hip when he tries to maneuver.

Here he is happily eating his dinner

And the rest of the day…..I had a lot of errands to run on this glorious windy and pouring down rainy day. I asked my mom (jokingly) if she wanted to run around town with me and she offered to take the kids. What an absolute blessing for all of us. In 3 ½ hours, I was able to run to the health food store, the eye doctor, return a pair of pants in the mall, go to Target, go to the produce store and the regular grocery store. Realistically, 3 days worth of town shopping with kids. I got home and had enough time to put away shopping items and take a shower before Phil got home. We immediately headed out to pick up the kids and then our cat. There was a minor fiasco with a flat tire and needing to stop for air several times which will have to be fixed on Phil’s break tomorrow because I have a midwife appointment right after work. All in all, I figure 6-6 ½ hours of driving around and errands for the day. I only had two teary episodes; once in the morning where a billion small things happened and it took me a ½ hour to just get out the door; and the other at the eye doctor where they were refusing to answer a simple question (can I have a sample set of contacts to get me by until my January appointment) even though I had called 3 hours previous to ask it!

Well, that is my manic Monday story. Now, that it is 9:30, I will do a little clean up and maybe get to the 4 loads of laundry that are waiting to be folded on the couch.

  1. Poor Bookie! So, who picked out the cast color?

Isn't is great to feel really productive once in awhile. Sorry to say, that'll probably have to get you by for awhile:-)
